IMI rates for 308 municipalities: data for journalists

What is in the file

Municipality code, name, urban rate, rural rate and district. The year is 2025: municipalities report their rate to the tax authority by the end of the year, so this is the latest published one.

Not just the current year

We keep 5 verified years — 2021–2025. Each year is its own file with its own check date, so you can see what a municipality changed, not only where it ended up.

Where there is no rate, we do not write zero

Some municipalities set no single rate — they set it per parish (freguesia). There the cell stays empty and the field says why. A zero would be a printed untruth.

In QGIS and other GIS

The GeoJSON file carries the municipal boundaries (CAOP, Direção-Geral do Território) with each municipality's rate as a number, ready to colour a map. In QGIS, add it as a vector layer from the address below, or use the free plugin “IMI Rates Portugal (flatin.pt)”: menu Web → IMI Rates Portugal (flatin.pt) → Add IMI rates layer…, choose the year, and the layer arrives coloured by rate, with the credits in its metadata.

How we checked

All 308 rows were harvested from the tax authority's portal and then verified line by line against that same source on 2026-09-12. The check repeats: a divergence a year from now means new rates, not a transcription error.
